From the beginning, our passion and desire at Restoration Church has been to be a culturally contextual community built upon engaging the social and spiritual needs of our neighbors. We hope to achieve this goal by understanding and serving our city through the lens of the gospel and cultivating a movement of relationships that reflect the character of Jesus and result in the flourishing of the world.
This is where you come in!
New York City is one of the most complex and diverse cities in the world. We are praying that God would assemble a team that can reflect this unique context by bringing together a variety of different individuals with distinct passions and gifts. If you are interested in living in an urban center and are enthusiastic about discipleship and applying the gospel in everyday life, we would love to for you to consider joining us for a year through our residency program. Our hope is that, as a part of the Restoration Church Ministry Residency, you will be able to hone your calling and develop as a leader while helping launch a new church in one of the most unique cities in the world.
The Program Includes...
How long is the residency program?
Our ministry residency lasts for 11 months starting on September 1 and ending on July 31 of the following year. Breaks during the residency will be provided around both the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays.
I will not be able to stay in NYC the entire length of the progam. Can I still participate?
We understand that 11 months is a long commitment and outside circumstances and scheduling may prevent some people from being able to stay the entire time. While it is certainly our preference that our residents complete the entire program, we will take each person on a case-by-case basis.
Is this a paid program?
Unfortunately, we are unable to financially compensate residents at this time. Due to the length of the program as well as the practical benefit of integrating into a new, urban context, residents are encouraged to secure at least a part-time, income producing job in the city for the duration of their stay. The lead pastor and team at Restoration Church are available both before and during the program to assist residents in finding an appropriate job.
For any additional resources that may be needed, there is an opportunity to fundraise as a “Church Planting Team Member” with the North American Mission Board. All donations would be given through this non-profit organization and, therefore, tax-deductible. You can find out more information about becoming a “Church Planting Team Member” here.
Are there any housing accomodations?
Given the duration of the program, we encourage our residents to seek housing in the city through either a yearlong lease or sublet. Our team will be happy to reach out to friends of Restoration on behalf of our residents for any roommate openings as well as research alternative housing options, such as listings on Redeemer Presbyterian Church’s Classifieds Page.
When/Where will the equipping meetings be?
Most meetings will take place in a conference room at the WeWork Meatpacking building in downtown Manhattan. Date and times will depend on the outside schedule of all residents. Coffee and tea will be provided for each meeting.
Will I need to purchase any books?
Most of the readings will be in PDF format delivered online. We will be reading one book in it's entirety, so we ask all residents to purchase Center Church by Timothy Keller.
